Arise and Work!
If God has a plan for my life, then it follows that I should seek that. Once I know what the plan is, then it follows that I should prepare for execution of the plan.
In the narrative of Solomon’s commission to build the temple, his father, David, gives him a clear presentation of the plan. David tells his son that it is God’s plan for Solomon to build the temple.
1 Chronicles 22:9-10 — Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies. For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. He shall build a house for my name. He shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.
David then explains to his son that he had what he needed to get started. Solomon had massive wealth provided to him by his father for the express purpose of building the temple. He had an abundance of workers. He had the leaders of Israel around him to help him. He also was commanded to continue in obedience to God.
1 Chronicles 22:12-13 — Only, may the Lord grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and the rules that the Lord commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Fear not; do not be dismayed.
Then, finally, David tells his young son this phrase:
1 Chronicles 22:16 — Arise and work! The Lord be with you!
I love this: Arise and work! God has a plan for us. God provides the necessities to get started. God provides people around us to help us. Then our step of obedience is to do two things: ARISE and WORK. So, my friends, “Arise and work!”
