Jake & Luke Baptism
Today was a momentous day for my two sons. Jake, 8, and Luke, 6, were baptized today. As if that were not cool enough, I had the pleasure of baptizing them.
Baptism, as I understand it, is a symbolic act of obedience in order to publicly claim one’s allegiance and belief in Jesus. Both of my young sons have expressed their own belief in Jesus. They clearly understand the problem of sin and the resulting penalty of hell. They understand that Jesus was God’s answer to the problem and that only through the death and resurrection of Jesus was that answer fulfilled. They understand that they are heaven bound because of their belief in Jesus. And they understand that baptism in no way changes or enhances their salvation, but it does express their obedience to God. They are publicly aligning themselves with Jesus. That is a big deal.
