Are You Ready For Such A Time As This?
I read the narrative of Esther this week. This short book of the Bible is a quick read yet something cool really stuck out to me. The story is about a Jewish girl who, because of her captivating beauty, is chosen to be the queen of King Xerxes of Persia. In this role, and with the help of her uncle, Mordecai, she is able to thwart a plan for Jewish genocide. One integral part of the story seems to involve a fear Esther had of entering into the king’s presence without being called. In that culture, entering into the king’s court without being summoned usually led to death.
Esther explains her fear to Mordecai and this is [part of] his response:
Esther 4:14 — And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
I love this phrase. Mordecai seems convinced that one way or another, God will rescue the Jews. But he aknowledges that there may be a purpose to Esther’s being named queen at that time. And, of course, when you read the rest of the story, you realize there indeed was a purpose.
At some point or another in life, the focus will land on us. Those around us will look up to us because of some recent promotion or elevation in their eyes. It may be a literal promotion at work or maybe it is a graduation. Perhaps it is receiving some important honor or award. Or maybe it is a diagnosis of some terminal illness. The point is that someday people will be looking up to you — maybe they are already looking up to you. Are you ready for such a time as this?

Hi Zac
That phrase has always been one of my favorites.
Not just the phrase – but the concept!
I love you!
