Theonautical Musings Revisted

Many months ago, I wrote, and again, about the idea of Theonauts; a theonaut is one who travels with God, or sails with Him. Since then I have been attuned to the journeys that we are all on. I greatly enjoy hearing others describe their journey. Our journey is unique and yet it is our own. No one else can claim it. And yet so many of our journeys are intermingled.

Ripe Time

It would seem that there are two primary questions that we, as humans, tend to ask frequently. These questions are not biased towards those who believe in God; they are asked by all. It appears, though, that these believers in God have a different tactic when it comes to answering these questions and it also seems that this latter group becomes far more frustrated by them. The first question is, “What should I do?” The second question is, “When should I do it?” Obviously these are basic decision-making skills that every human engages in routinely but when it comes to the important decisions, most of us pause and reflect before making the decision. How Do You Spend Your Labor?

When one is young, and full of vim, vigor and vitality, the idea of labor appears to draw on an unlimited pool of resources. The ways in which we choose to spend our time are really up to us — we make the decisions. What we do for a job, what we do for fun, and what we do for rest all add up to this collective concept of energy or labor. We sleep for a while and then it is off to another full day of adventure. As we get older, though, perhaps we start to understand this differently.

White Harvest

Calvin, in a comic strip with his pet tiger, Hobbes, says, “Help me (hic) get (hic) rid of (hic) these darn (hic) hic (hic) hiccups!”
Hobbes asks, “how?”
Calvin: “(hic) Scare me.”
Hobbes: “OK… Our oceans are filled with garbage, we’ve created a hole in the ozone that’s frying the planet, nuclear waste is piling up without any safe way to get rid of it…”
Calvin: “(hic) I mean, SURPRISE me (hic).”
Hobbes: “That doesn’t?! Boy, you’re cynical.”
I was driving home last night, through the winding freeway that cuts through Denver, and talking on the phone with a friend of mine. We had a discussion that surprised us both — and it should surprise you, too.
